Yearly physical examinations are essential for maintaining your companion's good health. These examinations enable us to diagnose health problems early, making treatment more effective, less involved, and ultimately less costly for you. During these comprehensive examinations, in addition to evaluating your pet's overall health, we also assess their nutritional needs, lifestyle, environment, and weight. We then have a personal discussion with you regarding our findings, answer any questions you have, and provide you with a written report if requested. An immunization program is then customized for your companion's specific needs.
Just like people, dogs and cats benefit from an annual check-up. Your dog or cat will be extensively examined in an attempt to find problems in their early stages so they may be addressed before they cause illness. During these appointments, we will also discuss whether vaccinations will be necessary, recommend preventative measures against fleas and ticks, recommend and demonstrate preventative home dental care techniques and discuss proper nutrition. In addition, heartworm disease and internal parasites are common in Florida and dangerous, but completely preventable. We test for heartworm infection and can begin your dog or cat on a heartworm preventative program.
Did you know that pets age faster than people and can be considered “seniors” at around 7 years of age? Just as our health care needs change as we age, your pet’s health care needs also change. Nutritional needs, exercise habits, and many aspects of your pet’s daily routine can change as your pet ages. But how can you tell the difference between “normal” aging and a medical problem? As in humans, some health issues that affect older pets can begin with very subtle changes that may go unnoticed until the problem has become serious.
Regular wellness visits are important for every stage of your pet’s life, so don’t forget to keep your senior pet’s scheduled wellness appointments. The best way to help protect your pet as he or she ages is to understand the aging process in pets. We understand that process and can help you help your pet. Even if your senior pet is already being treated for a medical condition, treatment recommendations can change as a condition progresses. Sometimes medication dosages need to be adjusted, or medication may need to be changed. Routine wellness blood work and other routine diagnostic testing are important for senior pets because these tests allow us to evaluate how your pet’s health is either responding to current management strategies or changing with age. Your senior pet’s wellness examination is also your chance to have us address any of your questions or concerns about your pet. We welcome your questions and encourage you to be involved in decisions regarding your pet’s health care.
Older pets make wonderful companions, and thanks to advances in veterinary medicine, pets are living longer than ever! You are an important ally in your senior pet’s health care. We are here to help ensure that your pet is safe and happy throughout the “golden years.”
If your dog or cat becomes ill, we are equipped to diagnose and provide treatment efficiently. Radiographs, laboratory diagnostics, ultrasound, and hospitalized nursing care are all in-house services provided for ill patients. Our nursing staff is gentle, diligent and treats each dog and cat as if they were their own.
At Lake Square Animal Hospital, we offer most routine surgeries necessary for general practice care. We go to great measures to provide anesthetic safety, monitoring and post operative pain management. Should the need arise for a specialty surgery that we do not offer, we arrange all of the details necessary to connect you with the right specialist in that area of veterinary care.
We advocate routine professional cleaning for the prevention of gum disease and tooth loss. As part of our prevention program, we use state-of-the-art dental prophylaxis equipment and only the best dental health materials.
We attempt to return all phone calls from clients on the same day. As well, we understand that some clients have anxiety over leaving their sick pet at the hospital, so we strive to maintain communications and updates during the stay. It is also customary to make follow up phone calls to check on your pet's progress.
Boarding is offered to established clients only. Dog and cat wards are separated to provide more comfort and less stress. Stainless steel runs and cages are offered with raised flooring for warmth and comfort. Pets are exercised and have playtime with kennel staff several times daily. Many clients bring a pet’s special toy, blanket, and treats.
For Your convenience, prior to boarding, you make click the Forms tab on our website and print a copy of the boarding pass, so that you will have this already filled out and ready to present at time of admission. Click HERE for Boarding Pass and Policies.
During business hours, medical and surgical emergencies take priority over other patients.
After hours, all emergencies will be referred to the veterinary emergency clinic.
